Pasture boost for Autumn/Winter program and early balanced grass.

Is super/potash the best value for pastures this year?

Traditional super phosphate/potash is the autumn pasture spread of choice is now being seriously questioned as the best value for a time of feed gap before the cold sets in and efficiencies of the nutrition and soils ability to accommodate this nutrition is realised.

Over the last decade HiTechAG have played with many nutritional combinations to promote early grass at an acceptable spend that can increase feed production without creating undesirable pasture toxicities and less desirable pasture species of capeweed or barley grass over the legumes and ryes.

We believe in the balancing of the nutrition but also inviting nitrogen into our pastures early so that some biomass is created that is so essential in weaning the animals off the hard feeds as early as possible and reducing the financial dependence to feed well into the winter.

Some would say that this would make our clovers lazy in there nodulation and N fixing – HiTechAG however have observed that the clovers are not fixing with much efficiency as it stands now – so there is a nitrogen drawdown at season break already.

Couple this with applications of Super/potash of which 50% of the muriate of potash is chlorides, [a sterlizing of the beneficial bacteria that digest organic matter and the rhizobia bacteria that fix the N from the air].

For this reason the fertilisers applied must be delivered in an appropriate form so that we can accommodate the necessary positive interactions in the soil rather than a hammer approach because that’s what we have always done in the past.

We question the use of super phosphate as the best purveyor of phosphorous and calcium when the calcium is very likely to limit the life of the phosphorous as they combine readily to create unavailable calcium phosphate. [Rock Phos].

Couple that with the Calcium as a gypsum being of some use but will never raise ph on a soil or supply as lasting form of calcium. [It can work at stripping out the calcium or potassium instead.]

The use of the traces Copper/Moly/Zinc are also additives to the compounds because they are showing up weak in the soil tests.

HiTechAG have observed the paradox of high level of P-K-S-Ca-Mn-Zn even copper in the totals of soil samples while showing deficiencies in the available levels of the same soil samples.

Very inefficient nutritional blends lead quickly to inefficient available nutrition. Units in does not directly relate to units available.

We suggest that appropriate pH and balance of the soils nutrition is key to enlisting other partnerships like microbiology and macro-biology- [because one is the food source of the other and the habitat of the soil with determine survival of populations].

We must balance the soil structural elements that construct pH. The cations calcium/magnesium/potassium/sodium/hydrogen/aluminium and iron drive this process.

It is very important that we have an idea as to the levels of totals in the soils at different profiles to understand which are the major are limiting factors restricting best plant performance and the bank of nutrition that we have to work with.

Once we have an idea of the soils construction and potential then a suitable plan of amelioration and nutritional delivery can be formulated.

Consider a recipe of Pro Fert granular blends, liquid prescription sprays or liquid injection.

OPTION 1

Hi Pasture Balance @ 16-6-8-9 plus traces and HTA carbon granule.

Use at a rate of 50-60kg/Ha at a cost of $38.50-$46.20/Ha.*

Use with the first rains of the season for maximum efficiency and production.

This is a carbon locked/coated blend of NPKS nutrition that has longer life in high fixing soils providing greater growth potential for longer in all weather conditions.

It is much more stable in the soil and biologically much more friendly to the living partnerships both macro and micro, than traditional acid soluble fertilisers.

OPTION 2

Pro P Extra 0-11-5-7 plus traces and HTA carbon granule..

Use at a rate of 50-60kg/Ha at a cost of $39.00-$46.80/Ha.*

OPTION 3

Liquid spray recipe example.

BLU S @ 10-20L/Ha. Nitrate and amine nitrogen and sulfur foliar.

Bio Active 22 @ 1-2L/Ha. Stabilised carbon/humate and amino acids.

Maxi Foliar Plus @ 2L/Ha. Multi mineral supply of NPKS and trace elements.

Super K40 @ 2L/Ha. Essential pH up and supply of potassium as carbonate.

Super Dol @ 2L/Ha. Essential pH up and supply of calcium and magnesium.

VAM Ultra @ 10g/Ha. Inoculant for mycorrhiza fungi and bacteria.

Fulva Wet @ 0.3L/Ha. Sticks the recipe to the new germination.

Approx Cost = $42.00/Ha.

This recipe is a highly efficient comprehensive plant available supply of balanced N P K S Ca Mg and traces, including Cobalt and Moly, designed for maximum pasture nutrition for grazing livestock.

This recipe is also designed to lift soil pH and help correct Sodium and Aluminium problems.
